Tigi gets new owner
Tigi is being bought by consumer products leader Unilever.
On January 26 2009, Unilever, the owner of brands such as Dove, Comfort, Ben & Jerry's and Chicken Tonight, announced that it would be buying the hair care brand Tigi. Tigi is a growing brand, available through salons and retailers and was originally developed by the Mascolo brothers – also famous for their Toni and Guy salons.

Tigi is being bought by Unilever for $411.5 million, equivalent to £295.2 million and includes all the Tigi hair salon brands and the company's academies. Tigi and its brands will continue to trade under the same names and the founders will remain to give advice as the business continues to grow. As a Tigi buyer, you shouldn't see any difference on the shelf or when you buy online – product ranges such as Bed Head and Catwalk will remain unaltered.
Tigi history
Tigi has been a real success in the salon products market. It was established in 1986 to provide hair care and styling products for the Toni and Guy salons, and was owned by all four Mascolo brothers. As the popularity of the Tigi brands grew, they became available from other retail sources as well as being sold through the salons. This exposed the brands to a wider market, and advertising campaigns led to further demand for products. Tigi has three predominant brands: Bed Head, Catwalk and S-factor. The purchase by Unilever will allow Tigi access to the funds it needs to expand the business, making it a real force in the salon products market – one which Unilever did not previously have a stake.
